Hofstatter Osias [1905 - 1994]
1905 – Born in Buchnia, Poland
1914 – Moved with his family to Vienna, Austria, 1915 – lives in Scheveningen, Holland
1918 – 1919 – Studies at Frankfurt University
1920 – 1938 – Lived in Vienna. Left to Luxembourg and Brussels, after the Anchluss.
1940 – 1942 – Was held by the Gestapo and sent to a concentration camp in France. Escaped, successfully, from the camp and reached Switzerland in 1942.
1943 – Studied at the Municipal School of Art, Zurich.
1946 – Studied at the Academy of Applied Art in Vienna.
1948 – Returned to Poland, Otvozk. Moved to Warsaw in 1951 and worked as a graphic editor in a newspaper.
1957 – Arrives in Israel
1963 – Receives a prize from the city of Holon
1968 – Receives a prize from the Ministry of Education and Culture
1976 – Receives the Dizengof prize
1985 – A film "Hofstatter – A Portrait of an Artist" is made by the Israeli Film Service
1989 – Receives the Heinrich Sussman prize
1995 – Passed away.
Exhibited many solo exhibitions in galleries and museums in Vienna, Warsaw, Salzburg, Munster (Germany) and throughout Israel. Participated in group exhibitions in Vienna , Warsaw, San Paolo (Brazil) and Israel.
His works can be found in the collections of the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv Museum, Hertzeliya Museum, Haifa Modern Art Museum, Petah-Tikva Museum, "Yad-Vashem" Museum in Jerusalem and in private collections in Israel and broad.
